Hello and welcome! My name is Dave Belville. I’m a 65-year-old kid that still likes playing with toys. As we all know, the older the kid the more expensive the toys. That’s true to a degree but there are exceptions. For instance, I like fishing. Fishing tackle is cheap. Well…sometimes. I know some people that go crazy with tackle and it stops being cheap but, for me, fishing is cheap. I have enjoyed fishing since I was five years old and my father would take me fishing. Those were good times that have influenced my life and I still enjoy the memories and the hobby.
Speaking of hobbies. I also enjoy Ham Radio. I first started in that hobby when I was thirteen but an unfortunate accident during a storm ended that endeavor for forty-five years. I decided about seven years ago to start again. The toys are expensive but they can keep you entertained for hours. It’s a hobby I wholeheartedly recommend.
I have recently become interested in another hobby. I am starting to enjoy photography. I don’t know what I’m doing yet but we will see how that progresses. You can follow me on that journey and maybe get a good laugh.
I have had a few different careers in my life. I became interested in cars and racing in my teens and quickly started doing my own maintenance and repairs. While I was in high school, I had jobs in gas stations (back when gas stations did more than just sell gas, food, tobacco, and alcohol). I loved working on cars and when I graduated, I already had a job at a Ford Truck dealership. I started my mechanics career at sixteen and worked on big trucks (tractors and trailers), busses, and construction equipment for almost thirty years. Working on those types of vehicles is harder on your body than you might think. I was also interested in computers which was an interest sparked by the computers we were starting to see in big trucks. I saw trucks going from all mechanical fuel and injection systems to computer-controlled engines and I was amazed. That amazement led me to personal computers and I decided in 1997 to become a “computer guy”. I did that for another 19 years and decided to semi-retire. I still do some part-time computer and network system consulting but only about 10-15 hours per week. That field is rapidly changing too and I am finding that grandchildren, Ham Radio, and fishing are my main interests anymore. Since I like to talk about my interests, I decided to set up this site and try to learn something new and entertain those that also enjoy the same past times. I hope I can help you learn something or entertain you in some way. Thank you for giving me the chance.
